THE HOUSE

The whole house,
just for you.

The detached house where the vice abbot lived as a child, now a lodge for one party a day.

In the temple’s house,
stay as if you lived here.

The temple’s detached house originally had three tatami rooms. We turned one into an earthen-floor space and opened up the closets, to make a place where you can spend your time at a table and chairs. The kitchen and the shower are brand new.

Whether you travel alone, with friends, or with family and your dog. This is the only house on the grounds.

  • 68m²
  • 6guests max
  • 14tatami bedroom
  • 1party a day
  • Pfree parking
  • 🐾dogs welcome

LIVING

The earthen-floor living room

We removed the tatami from one room and made it an earthen floor. The change in floor height gives the room a sense of depth. There is a TV, a speaker, board games and Buddhist manga, too.

  • Wi-Fi
  • SONY TV
  • Bose speaker
  • Buddhist manga and board games

BEDROOM

The tatami bedroom

The bedroom is 14 tatami mats in all. Some guests tell us they rested better on the fluffy futons than at home.

  • 6 futon sets
  • Air conditioning

WORKSPACE

A closet turned workspace

We also opened up the closets on either side of the house. The east side became a workspace and the west side a wardrobe. This gentle sense of openness is the vice abbot’s favorite.

  • Work desk
  • Wardrobe

KITCHEN

Kitchen and bathroom

Water areas shape how comfortable a stay feels, so we renewed the kitchen, the toilet and the shower room alike. Cookware, tableware, coffee beans and a hand mill are ready for you.

  • Induction hob
  • Fridge-freezer
  • Front-loading washer-dryer

ENTRANCE

The entrance with the Ensō window

The ZENSŌ mark, ◯△□, was born from the Ensō window of this entrance. The view beyond the window changes with the season and the hour.

GARDEN

The garden and deck

In front of the house are a garden and a deck for barbecues and a pizza oven. In spring there may be bamboo shoots, and in autumn chestnuts and walnuts.

  • BBQ equipment
  • Dome pizza oven
  • Fire pit

LIGHT UP

The grounds at night, all to yourself

As dusk falls, everything from the mountain gate to the main hall and the bell tower is lit up. Only guests who stay can walk the illuminated grounds.

  • After sunset to 21:00
